Pom Pom ‘Hamster’ Maze
This activity is taken from “Let’s Go Live with Maddie & Greg”, a live family science show on YouTube!
“We love this activity because it doesn’t matter if you have pets or not, anyone can play!”
This activity is all about creating a maze that your hamster (pom pom!) can escape from in the quickest time!
1. Get your pom poms ready!
2. Find a space – could be the floor or a table. (Be sure to pick a surface that will not be damaged when the tape is removed!)
Mark out the outer part of your space but be sure to leave an entrance and exit to your maze!
3. Think carefully about the different routes you would like – some might be stopped with a dead end!
4. Now mark out these routes by creating inner walls within your maze!
5. Take it in turns to put your pom pom at the start of the maze, and your challenge is to blow the pom pom around the maze from the entrance to the exit!
6. Using the stopwatch, time your escape from the maze and see who has the fastest time!
This activity is based on a maze/activity that a hamster would normally have a go at. When keeping pets it is always important to consider what you can do for enrichment – what activities can you create for your pet that will stimulate their brain and encourage them to exercise? Creating these activities will help to keep your pet happy too!
